Understand the care available, what each treatment aims to do, and what to discuss at your consultation. Dr. Ajay will assess your teeth, gums and medical history before recommending a plan. The number of visits and suitability of treatment depend on your individual needs.
01
Checkups, fillings & scaling
A checkup looks at your teeth, gums and mouth and gives you time to discuss pain, sensitivity or other concerns. A filling repairs a cavity or a damaged area of a tooth. Scaling removes hardened deposits that ordinary brushing cannot remove.
Your dentist will explain the findings and discuss whether cleaning, a filling or another treatment is appropriate. You can also ask about brushing, cleaning between teeth and when to return for review.
02
Root canals & crowns
Root canal treatment cleans infected tissue from inside a tooth, then fills and seals the root canals. It may help retain a tooth that would otherwise need removal. A crown is a covering used to restore and protect a tooth when a filling alone may not be enough.
An examination and, when needed, X-rays help determine whether the tooth can be restored. Ask about the planned stages, the final filling or crown, and follow-up care. Treatment may require more than one visit.
03
Extractions, wisdom teeth & minor surgery
When a tooth cannot be retained, extraction may be discussed. Wisdom teeth sometimes need treatment because of their position or problems around them; removal is not required for every wisdom tooth. Depending on the assessment, removal may be straightforward or involve a surgical procedure.
Minor oral surgery also includes assessment of mouth and facial injuries and biopsies of oral red or white lesions or enlarged tissue. A biopsy takes a small tissue sample for examination to help establish a diagnosis. Specialist appointments are arranged when needed; the procedure and aftercare are explained before treatment.
04
Children’s dentistry
Children’s care includes checking developing teeth, treating cavities with fillings and discussing suitable everyday cleaning habits with parents. If infection affects the tissue inside a baby tooth, a pulpectomy may be considered: the affected tissue is removed and the canals are treated.
A planned extraction may be appropriate for a tooth that cannot be retained. The dentist considers the child’s age, the tooth’s condition and its stage of development before discussing options with the parent or caregiver. Bring any available dental records and tell the dentist about medicines or allergies.
05
Smile makeovers & whitening
A smile consultation starts with what you would like to change and a check of your dental health. Whitening aims to lighten natural tooth colour. Veneers cover the front surface of selected teeth to change aspects of their appearance. A smile makeover may involve a combination of suitable treatments.
Discuss your expectations, tooth and gum condition, possible sensitivity, maintenance and alternatives before deciding. If you are planning for a wedding or another occasion, arrange a consultation early so that an appropriate timetable can be discussed. Results and treatment choices vary from person to person.
06
Gum care
Gum care assesses the tissues that support your teeth. Bleeding, swelling or gum changes can be discussed during an examination. Treatment may include professional cleaning and advice on daily plaque removal; deeper cleaning or gum surgery may be considered when the assessment indicates a need.
Dr. Ajay’s MDS specialization is in Periodontology. For people with existing medical conditions, dental planning also considers their health history and medicines. Bring your current prescriptions and relevant reports, and discuss any changes in your health at the consultation.
07
Dental implants
A dental implant is placed in the jaw to support a replacement tooth or teeth. Planning considers the space left by missing teeth, the gums and available bone, as well as general health. An implant is one option to discuss; it is not suitable for everyone.
Implant care involves assessment, treatment planning and review during healing. The sequence and timing depend on the clinical situation. Visiting specialist appointments can be arranged when needed. Ask about alternatives, the expected stages, maintenance and the proposed costs before deciding.
08
Braces & bite support
Orthodontic treatment uses braces or other suitable appliances to move teeth and improve their alignment or how they meet. The visiting orthodontist assesses the teeth and bite and explains the proposed plan. Treatment involves ongoing reviews and is arranged by appointment.
A night guard is a different appliance: it may be used to protect teeth from damage associated with grinding or clenching. It does not straighten teeth. An examination helps determine whether a guard is suitable and what further assessment may be needed.
